She was elusive.
She was today. She was tomorrow.
She was the faintest scent of a cactus flower,
the flitting shadow of an elf owl.
We did not know what to make of her.
In our minds we tried to pin her to corkboard like a butterfly,
but the pin merely went through
and away she flew. - Jerry Spinelli

[ UCTV ]
Late 2003. Concerns of commercialism were raised among the 1200 or so students of Tanjong Katong Secondary School following the introduction of the mandatory TK socks. Is TK becoming a brand name? What's next to follow suit?
Mid 2008. Nearing the end of her undergraduate education, Pauline discovered that socks are nowhere near what an exorbitantly bigger, richer, and significantly more profound higher education platform could accomplish: a television system.
My feelings on it? Shrugs... I don't know. Weird I guess... I mean, the idea itself is cool, and the website features that small and scrunched up together font face that's reminiscent of a scientific journal. Yet alas! As you can see, I haven't really checked it out beyond the home page. Maybe I'll grow some fondness of it as soon as I look into it a little bit more. As the cliche goes, don't judge a book by its cover, or a website by its homepage.

[ Ramen ]
Love mental challenges? Sudoku, crossword puzzle, Godtower... yawn, you've done it all! Now what? Is there any challenge left in this world?
Well fellas, look no further. I mightn't have much to offer, save for one simple question. One simple, mind-boggling question. To think about it, it's not even a question to begin with, rather an instruction, 5 words long, simple as can be. Let me warn you, though, it might exert quite a bit of brainpower.
Up for the challenge? Take a deep breath now. Ready? Here goes...
Imagine: A world without ramen.
Take a moment to reflect upon yourself. What would happen to you on those cold, rainy days, where, sore and drenched from the sprint back home, you scavenged through your food supply, and alas! found no ramen! Or those occasions where your tummy growls one death threat after another, and you have but three minutes to spare (cos we know that those bite-sized packs of flour, eggs and preservatives of TV dinners don't taste like anything). Imagine how many live it could safe, stowed away in bunkers lest a war were to occur.
Indomie, Magi Mee, Ramen. A package of instant noodle by any other name smells the same, tastes the same, and contains the same 500% DV of sodium that, without a doubt, significantly suppresses many a country's mortality rate.

[ Rant ]
One last rant. Promise. Blame Monster. The Mixxd flavor (purple) kinda reminds me of African tea. Khaos still trumps all other energy drinks in my dictionary.
I've had enough of people saying
"All About Me!" or "All About Rocky (, my pet rock)" or... "All About" whatever, really!
I mean. Seriously people, we honed that back in wee days of elementary school; back when coining a three word sentence gets you a star and a smiley face on your English composition paper. For the sake of Jeanna Bush's marriage (George Bush just gave her daughter's hand in marriage, by the way), please, prove me right, dear friends, that our right brains have capacities great enough to conjure something, anything, other than -shudder- that phrase which shall not be named.
Granted, I still like McFly's All About You, but that is used in a completely different context.
Because I said so.
Ps. Sorry Mrs. Hagar, that was a completely random choice.

[ Choral Piece ]
If only life was a choral piece... take Te Deum for example... of separate strings intertwining into a beautiful harmony. Sometimes you'd hit a sharp, sometimes a flat... sometimes you'd have to wade through a stream of minor keys, and sometimes things take a turn so perplexing you'd doubt yourself of singing the right part, doing the right thing. Yet we all know of that major key where all the voices would come together and build up the much expected grand finale. And then you'll look back and see that it's all good.

[ Believe It or Not ]
Wanna hear a believe it or not story?
Back in January, I made this loving gift for a certain friend's birthday. It was a small gift, but one that was meticulously crafted into a whimsical gift, personalized to suit her likings, that I'm rather proud of. Unfortunately, this lucky friend of mine, happened to be one of those people I've been complaining quite a bit about, lately. Yeah, I still hate labeling & repeating a notion past the threshold of being cliched, but with the likes of her... ah... let me finish my story.
Months passed, and she's still the same old girl who thinks that she's being good enough a friend, though she never followed through with any of our lunch / tea / dinner dates, nor does she seem to show the slightest hint of remorse let alone to initiate something of her own. As May rolled into place, chances have it that I was to randomly bump into her (she was still wearing the same old tween jacket, and I still couldn't help noticing her skin's angry red / brown bumps & blotches, that a common friend of ours - who happened to be EEK, HOW EMBARRASSING, a guy - pointed out to be a result of poor hygiene habit). Again, I mentioned how we haven't got to meet up and again, the effort seems to be one-sided. On a side note, I hinted how I was yet to give her the birthday present.
With the audacity of a style-stealer (she tried to copy my exact outfit more than once, and failed, miserably, every single time.), tween jacket wearer, cheap, self-absorbed girl with poor hygiene habit, she said:
"Well. How much was it? Maybe you should just keep it for yourself."
I can't clearly recall what happened right afterwards. Maybe I narrowed my eyes and snorted with utmost disgust... Or perhaps, at one point, I was overwhelmed by a wave of anguish and disappointment... Whatever it was, I could vaguely recall anything, save for the aftershock of a certain livid, white flash that seem to have exploded and wiped everything out...
Next thing I know, I burst into laughter. Not the social and communicative laughter that you share with someone. It's the kind of self-absorbed laughter where you laughed for the sake of laughing. Much like what maniacs do in the movies.
I stopped the conversation right then and there, neither mad, nor sad, and I walked away with a story to tell.
Ps. She still thinks that we're good friends, and trust me, I'm not good at hiding my affections (or lack thereof). Maybe... she's socially impaired after all. Poor girl...
Pps. WHO AM I KIDDING?

[ Scent ]
Nothing is more memorable than a smell. One scent can be unexpected, momentary, and fleeting, yet conjure up a childhood summer beside a lake in the Poconos... another, a moonlit beach... a third, a family dinner of pot roast, noodle pudding, and sweet potatoes during a myrtle-mad August in a midwestern town... Smells detonate softly in our memory like poignant land mines, hidden under the weedy mass of many years of experience.
